Repairs and Maintenance

Repairs

  • Reattach tooth\teeth - Reattaching teeth that have broken\come off back onto the existing denture.
  • Replace tooth\teeth - Replacing teeth that have been lost from the existing denture and the patient doesn't have the tooth\teeth; this repair may require an impression.
  • Broken Base - Repairing the denture base material, not including teeth.
  • Replace Retainer(s) - Replacing retainer(s) that have broken off the denture; this repair typically requires an impression.
  • Clean and polish - Staining usually occurs if the patient smokes, drinks black coffee or tea, or red wine. No amount of brushing or soaking will get rid of it.

WARNING: Do not attempt to use superglue to repair your denture for following reasons:

  1. Superglue is a toxic substance when it is ingested
  2. Superglue releases cyanide particulates when the technician uses their tools to grind on it.

Maintenance

  • Additions - Adding teeth to an existing denture. This can be done either before or after teeth extraction (or if teeth have fallen out on their own) so long as the sockets are completely closed over.
  • Reline - If your dentures are very loose and flopping around. Relining is a procedure that involves adding a new layer of material to the fitting surface of a denture to improve its fit and comfort. It helps to address changes in the shape of the jawbone  and gums over time, ensuring a more secure and snug fit of the denture.
  • Remodel - If the teeth on your denture are worn down, but the fitting surface of the denture is still secure.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How often should I have my dentures cleaned by a prosthetist?

It is recommended to have your dentures professionally cleaned by a prosthetist once you cannot successfully remove visible stains and plaque yourself. Regular cleaning helps  to ensure good denture hygiene with the thorough removal of stain and plaque buildup.

  • How do I know whether my dentures require an adjustment?

If you experience discomfort, sore spots, difficulty chewing or notice changes in the fit of your dentures, it may indicate the need for an adjustment.
